A collection of works by German painter Gerhard Richter. Published in conjunction with his seventh exhibition at the Marian Goodman Gallery in New York in 2005. The exhibition included works produced between 2001 and 2005, including two important series of paintings, other paintings, and large-format drawings that marked his first major presentation since the publication of the catalogue raisonné Gerhard Richter: Drawings 1964-1999. Four works from the Silikat picture series, 885-1-- 885-4 (2003), in which black-and-white compositions based on enlarged photographs of molecular structures explore a new relationship between abstraction and representation, were exhibited. Another series, 892-1 -- 892-12 (2005), presented twelve large-format abstract paintings in sequence, indicating a different direction for his painting. Includes an essay by Swiss curator Dieter Schwartz and an interview with German art historian Benjamin H.D. Buchloch.
Published on the occasion of Richter's 7th exhibition at Marian Goodman Gallery, New York in the winter of 2005. The exhibition included works made between 2001 and 2005, including two important cycles of new paintings, as well as individual paintings, and a series of large-format drawings rare in scale and the first of their kind since the appearance of the 1999 catalogue raisonné of the drawings, Gerhard Richter: Drawings 1964-1999. The two new series of paintings include four Silikat pictures, "885-1-- 885-4" (2003) whose black and grey planes explore the nexus between abstraction and representation, taking as their point of departure photographically enlarged molecular structures. A separate cycle of works will include a series of twelve paintings from 2005, "892-1 -- 892-12" (2005), in which the artist's pictorial stratagems are developed within the context of a succession of large-format abstractions. The catalogue includes an essay by Dr. Dieter Schwartz and an essay and interview by Benjamin H.D. Buchloh.
