A collection of works by the Barcelona-based architecture studio Arquitectura-G.

This book brings together 21 interviews conducted by the studio, compiling more than 15 years of records published in Apartamento magazine since its inaugural issue in 2008. Expansive, technical, and deeply immersive, these conversations bring together some of the most original thinkers in architecture, weaving together decades, archives, disciplines, and countries, and placing multiple generations of architects side by side in a single volume. What began as a project to feature the magazine’s architecture section has now become something else entirely: a portrait of the studio itself. The studio’s own obsessions surface in every conversation—questions of scale, ambiguity, hedonism, bathrooms, dance, and the house as a laboratory.

As these interviews are released as an anthology, the architects reveal a series of choices regarding houses and homes that became deeply personal because they conceived them themselves. What unites them is a fundamental questioning of universal needs answered by universal forms. What ties these houses together is something beyond architecture—less about having built them and more about having continued to live within the questions they raised. Through twenty-one conversations, the studio draws each architect into a new dialogue—curated and compiled together with architect Moisés Puente, this volume now asks the architects to speak to one another across time.

Participating architects:
Eduardo Longo, Ricardo Bofill, Smiljan Radić, Oscar Tusquets, César Manrique, Fernando Higueras, Dante Bini, EMBT, Bernard Rudofsky, OFFICE, Maarten Van Severen, Alberto Ponis, Sam Chermayeff, Anne Holtrop, Leopold Banchini, Álvaro Siza, B+, Bas Princen, Hans-Walter Müller, Christian Kerez, Pezo von Ellrichshausen

Twenty-One Conversations with Architects brings together more than a decade and a half’s worth of interviews conducted by Barcelona-based architecture firm Arquitectura-G, published in Apartamento magazine since its very first issue in 2008. Expansive, technical, submerged, the book threads together some of architecture’s most singular minds, crossing decades, archives, disciplines, and countries, and placing multiple generations of architects side by side in a single volume. What started as a takeover of the magazine’s architecture section has now become something else entirely: a portrait of the studio itself, their own obsessions surfacing across every conversation—questions of scale, ambiguity, hedonism, bathrooms, dances, the house as a laboratory. As they open these interviews to the anthology, the architects unfold a series of choices in houses and homes that are deeply personal to those who conceived them, united by their fundamental questioning of universal needs answered by universal forms. What ties these houses together is something beyond architecture—less about having built them, and more about having gone on living inside the questions they raised. Twenty-one conversations later, Arquitectura-G draws each architect into a new one—curated together, and compiled by Moisés Puente, they are now asked to speak to each other across time.
